He attended Mary Knoll College, Okuku, Yala Local Government Area from January to September 1970. He received the German Academic Exchange Scholarship, which is awarded to the top faculty students, between 1971 and 1974 and used it to study. Between 1976 and 1978, he also studied at the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul Campus USA, where he earned an MSc in soil science. He continued on to earn a PhD in Pedology from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 1982.
At the Kaduna Polytechnic in Kaduna State, Esu began his career in 1975 as an assistant lecturer in soil science.
